Theory Expats, Hoot & Holler houseconcert (Binghamton, NY) — 22 July 2018

I first met the three talented young artists — Sadie Gustafson-Zook (fiddle, guitar, kazoo, ukulele, vocals), Ethan Setiawan (mandolin) and Andrew Pauls (banjo, guitar, vocals) — of Theory Expats in 2015 when I was running sound for an international Mennonite convention in Kansas City. We became quick friends and shared music together throughout the weekend. Upon leaving, we promised to play together again someday. That day has finally arrived… it is July 22nd, 2018! And just in case that’s not enough, Hoot and Holler from Asheville, North Carolina will also be joining us for the evening.

Lipbone Redding houseconcert (Binghamton, NY) — 20 May 2018

I’ve seen Lipbone Redding perform a half dozen times or so. I get jaded easily, but have never gotten tired of Lipbone. While so many other singer-songwriters rely on their electronic loop stations and effects to create a sonic environment for their songs, Lipbone uses nothing but his voice, guitar, harmonica and feet to create his signature, one-man-orchestra sound. He smudges the boundaries from funk to folk, jazz to world-beat, and does it all with virtuosity, intensity and a great deal of joy. Now he’s coming to play for you in our living room, and I can’t wait.
